Why Should You Care? Preventing Child Abuse Community Resources Pinwheel Activities

RAISE THE ISSUE
By educating yourself—and others—you can help your community prevent child abuse and neglect from happening in the first place.

Check out PCA America Community Resources and photocopy information to post in your workplace, apartment building, library, laundromat, church, beauty parlor, supermarket or school. You can order postitive parenting materials with a community-wide approach to child abuse prevention at ChanningBete.com.

Contact your school district, library or faith group about support programs for parents and how you can help. If none exist, encourage them to sponsor classes and develop resources for parents.

Wear a blue ribbon or blue wristband and tell people that it stands for the prevention of child abuse and neglect.

Call or write your elected officials and ask them to support funding for parent support and child abuse prevention programs. Enclose copies of articles on child abuse and neglect from your local newspaper. Our web site has information on how to reach your elected representatives.

Write to the editor of your local newspaper sharing what you've learned about child abuse and neglect. Point out that preventing child abuse and neglect is an important investment in the future of your community.
